Rob’s dad passed away this morning at 5:43am from aplastic anemia (lack of new blood cell production).
We hadn’t said goodbye, so we drove up Sunday night to spend some time with him before he passed. I think spending the 2 and a half days there brought us some closure.
I was surprised the difference a week made in his state. When we saw him a week ago he was sitting in a chair, ready to eat dinner. He was able to chat with us and seemed like himself just weak and tired. This weekend he was almost unresponsive. Occasionally he would lift his arm or move his mouth. A few times he tried to whisper something, but he was mostly out of it.
Wednesday when we went into the center to see him before we headed back to Tucson, we were surprised to see him a little more responsive. He opened his eyes a bit, and even managed a faint smile when we told him Molly and Sophie were here with us. He moved his legs a bit and was able to whisper a few words. After they gave him his pain medication he was back to unresponsiveness.
Paul has been such an influential person in our lives and we will miss him dearly. We are happy to have the gospel prospective in our lives, know where he is and that he can now be with others who have passed. It’s nice to know the physical pain he lived with for so many years is no longer plaguing him and he can be at peace.
